Primary Nightclub this weekend is the primary (sorry) location for Viva Acid, a celebration of the 303 and a series of events, panel discussions and demonstrations centered around the original acid box and the electronic music industry as a whole.

Viva Acid takes places this October 23 through October 24. Among the performers will be Hieroglyphic Being, Kenny Larkin, K. Alexi Shelby, Change Request, Chicago Skyway, Glenn Underground, Secret Studio and Karl Almaria.

Viva Acid’s talks and lectures begin at 5pm on Saturday October 23 and will be held at the recently re-opened Primary Nightclub. Among the talks will be a presentation on “From Acid House to Electronic Dance Music” with Orville Kline and Danny Digable, “The Impact of Vernacular Music on Society” from 6 to 7pm and “New Opportunities for Youth In Music” from 7pm to 8pm.

This will be followed by a hosted reception from 8pm to 11pm featuring live sets from Change Request and Hieroglyphic Being. Both the lectures and the reception are free.

At 11pm, Viva Acid moves into the nightlife with a show featuring K. Alexi Shelby, Kenny Larkin and Secret Studio from 11pm to 5am. Tickets for the show are available here.

On Sunday, Viva Acid takes over Brunchlox at Logan 11 (2230 N. California) from 1pm to 7pm with Glenn Underground, Chicago Skyway and Karl Almaria. This event is free.

Primary, where Saturday’s lectures and events are taking place, is located at 5 W. Division Street.
