No one makes the bass go boom like Joshua Iz. Know The Truth is the Chicago stalwart’s new EP from his own Vizual label. This is supported by a host of other well-known Chicago DJs but more importantly it will burn a dancefloor to the ground — just pull the pin and wait 5 seconds for that swerving groove to go OFF. The title track is scorching — fat, hypnotic bass that sucks the oxygen out of the room and short, reverby vocal clips that fill it back up. Exquisite.

If that’s not dubby enough, break the glass on “Know The Dub.” This release isn’t on wax, which is a shame because if it was you’d really have to buy two copies just to play this one back-to-back.

That’s the main fruit but don’t overlook “Factors,” the kind of quirky 2am stimulant that every DJ can use. The odd “Line Freeze” rounds it out — just 3 and a half music and sounding like the dance remix of the spaceship music standoff at the end of Close Encounters of the Third Kind. Or as the notes have it, evoking “images of hard ballroom vogueing in space.”
